May 2022 – April 2024

  • Field Crisis intervention – finding a target group, professional activities, field social work, creating conditions for the distribution of food/groceries, providing temoprary shelter in an apartment, providing crisis assistance through telecommunications technologies (crisis line) and so on – 434.5 hod.
  • Social counselling – professional help to female clients who find themselves in an unfavorable life situation due to domestic violence – 2,816 hod.
  • Safety management – professional employees at the level of multi- institutional cooperation determine the causes of the origin, nature and extent of problems of women and their children and provide professional assistance, including identification of violence, evaluation of threats, take measures to ensure their safety – 870.5 hod.
  • Assistance in the exercise of rights and interests protected by law – assistance in dealing with official matters, in dealing with personal documents, in writing and submitting written submissions, writing out forms, etc. – 582.5 hod.
  • Psychological care for children – children are also victims of domestic violence or are indirect victims of domestic violence-witnesses. This situation leaves them traumatized, so it is necessary to provide them with psychological help and support – 481.5 hod.  
  • Psychological support and care for women – help in treatment with trauma, the consequences of domestic violence – 52 hod.
  • Legal advice, Assistance in preparation for teaching, Employment assistance, Development of work skills663.5 hod:
    • help to victims of domestic violence to orientate themselves and resolve legal issues that are closely related to domestic violence (criminal complaint, interim measure, filings, etc.),
    • professional employees help children´s clients with preparation for teaching, in writing homework, projects, working on a PC, etc.,
    • in order for vistims of domestic violence to become finanially independent, they need to find a suitable job, with which professional employees help them. They are also helpful with the preparation of CV and other documents,
    • professional employees work with clients on acquiring work skills, reconciling work and personal life, etc..
  • Accommodation for a certain period of time, necessary to ensure crisis intervention, protection and support, including creating conditions for food preparation, performing basic personal hygiene, cleaning, washing, ironing, hobbies;
  • Methods of expressive therapies – Music Therapy and Arte Therapy – in order to improve the quality of the services provided, especially to children, in the Women´s Safe House we implement expressive therapy methods, which are a very suitable choice, as they allow the release of accumulated negative emotions, energy – 139.5 hod.
  • Special pedagogical care – special-pedagogical care is in great demand when working with a children´s client in the Women´s Safe House, as only a special pedagogist can provide adequate care and assistance to children with various disadvantages (physical, mental, speech etc.) – 93.5 hod.
  • Operation of a crisis apartment – for the purpose of protecting the life and health of women, their children and employees of the Safe Women’s House. Accommodation in the crisis apartment was used by 10 clients (5 women and 5 children).
  • Educational campaign through which will offer space and opportunity to acquire knowledge, information on violence against women and children, their safety, non-victimizing intervention, forms of assistance, appropriate and inappropriate procedures for working with the target group for experts working on the topic of violence against women and children- social workers, police officers, educators, preventionists and other experts working on the topic of violence against women and children:
    • The first of the educational activities aimed at preventing violence against children and between children, began to be implemented on 4 November, 2022. The activity is implemented in the form of an interactive webinar and 28 participants have participated in it.
    • The educational activity focused on a sexual abuse of children was organized on May 5, 2023, and the educational activity focused on psychological violence was held in May 12, 2023. Both actitivities were face-to-face with 10 participants – female employees of Centrum Slniečko, n.o..
    • The education activity focused on psychological violence was organized on May 26, 2023. 16 attendees were employees of municipality of Nitra as a project’s partner.
    • On December 13, 2023, and April 23, 2024, the educational activity focused on domestic and gender-based violence, dynamics and forms of violence, risk assessment, security plan, legal protection and protection system for victims of domestic violence in Slovakia, multidisciplinary cooperation in the context of domestic violence. The activity was attended by 15 representatives of the police and 13 employees of the Center Slniečko, n.o.
    • From March 22, 2024, two educational activities aimed at obtaining a general overview of the CAN syndrome, its symptoms, manifestations, risk factors, and appropriate procedures in case of suspected child abuse, sexual abuse, or child neglect began. The educational activities are carried out in the form of an interactive webinar and were attended by a total of 40 participants – employees of the Center Slniečko, n.o. and cooperating organizations.
    • On April 4.-5, 2024, and April 17.-18., 2024, – educational activity focused on children’s drawing – history, ontogenesis of children’s artistic expression, meaning of some signs in children’s drawings, color symbolism, specific signs in selected drawing tests in the context of CAN and CSA, screening tests, identification of specific signs in children’s drawings, which may be related to torture, sexual abuse; Drawing and its use in art therapy. A total of 21 participants took part in the activity – employees of Centra Slniečko, n.o., a partner of the City of Nitra project and collaborating organizations.
    • During the month of July, 84 participants – female employees of Centra Slniečko, n.o., were educated in three new interactive educational modules, which were created thanks to support from the project. Their content was mainly the issue of appropriate and inappropriate touching of children in the field of education, interest groups, healthcare, etc., issues of domestic and gender-based violence (forms, prevention, secondary victimization, retraumatization, standards, code of ethics, etc.), taking into account violence against the elderly, the LGBT+ community, etc.
  • Awareness raising campaign – the aim is to raise an awareness about a violence against women, about the options, forms and means of solving violence against women and children in the Nitrian self-governing region. The campaign is mainly distributed via internet platforms, primarily in the form of a podcast format. The campaign also includes visual outputs that follow the podcast series.
    • The campaign is supported by 900 pieces of information materials-leaflets, which are distributed within the Nitrian self-governing region.
    • on October 12, 2023, he campaign was launched with the premiere of the first episode of a seven-part podcast series called “Stratené (Lost)”. Every Thursday, the series presents the real story of women – victims of domestic violence. More information HERE.
    • Between October 31, 2023 and November 27, 2023, 102 citylights, which followed the podcast series and supported the content of the campaign, were placed in the Nitrian self-governing region.
  • Cooperation – meeting:
    • We have been cooperating with the Regional Directorate of the Police Force in Nitra for more than 5 years. Based on this cooperation, a model of assistance was created in cooperation with the police and the Victim Counseling Center. This model became the starting point for the amendment of the law on Victims of Crime, which incorporated into the law Intervention Centers and cooperation between the police and counseling centers in order to help victims of domestic violence quickly and effectively.
      • September 20, 2023 regular meeting of the working group KR PZ Nitra and representatives of Sun Centre, npo. aimed at introducing new members, presenting the cooperation of the Counseling Center for Victims with the Intervention Center and individual police departments. The topic of the meeting was the individual steps of reporting, instructions of the police director, problems in mutual cooperation, the future program of the working group.
      • December 7, 2022 and June 6, 2023 meeting of the working group of KR PZ Nitra and representatives of Sun Centre, npo., focused on the issue of domestic violence and violence against children. The issue of cooperation between individual OO PZ and OKP within KR PZ Nitra and the Counseling Center for Victims with the Intervention Center was addressed, after the implementation of the reporting institute. Examples of good practice – cooperation, but also problems in cooperation, for which constructive solutions were sought, were shared.
      • June 15, 2022, one of the regular multidisciplinary meetings with representatives of the police, which is an integral of several years of cooperation.
    • In the months of June, August, November 2023 and March 2024, 5 meetings were held with cooperating organizations with the aim of proposing measures and strategies on the topic of violence against women and children.
  • The activity of an expert consultant for the field of domestic violence – this activity is provided by the project partner City of Nitra, starting in November 2022 to February 2024. His task purpose of i tis to support and coordination of preventive activities in the given area, the networking of subjects, the mediation of information from the given area from the national to the local level, creation of a functional support network, data collection, etc.
  • Spatial extension of the Women’s Safe House and its equipment
    On November 9, 2023, reconstruction work began on the building, which will expand the capacity of the already operating Safe Women’s House by 15 places. The project partner – the City of Nitra – is responsible for the course and implementation of this activity. On April 30, 2024, a valid approval decision was issued. In the months of April and May 2024, the facility will be equipped (furniture, appliances, etc.).
    On June 11, 2024, the Decision of RÚVZ, based in Nitra, of May 30, 2024, on putting the premises of the facility into operation and on approving the operating procedure, entered into force. On May 31, 2024, a request for changes in the NSK register of social service providers was submitted.
    On June 28, 2024, a change was made in the register of social services, and from July 1, 2024, it is possible to provide social services in the renovated Safe Women’s House with a capacity of 15 places.

    On June 13, 2022, an introductory press conference was held in the premises of the Municipal Office in Nitra, where the launch of the project and planned activities were presented. The press conference was attended by representatives of the Program Manager, the ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway, the mayor of the City of Nitra, representatives of the project partner, helping professions, the recipient and local, regional and national media.

    On October 24, 2023, in the premises of the non-profit organization Centrum Slniečko, n.o. held an ongoing press conference at which the ongoing results and implemented activities of the project were presented. The press conference was attended by representatives of the Program Manager, project partner City of Nitra and the media.

  • Final conference, Nitra, May 15, 2024Press release »»
    On May 15, 2024, the final conference on the implementation of the project was held. In the first part, the results, outputs and implemented activities were presented with the participation of the ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway in Vienna, the representative of the Program Manager, representatives of the partner of the City of Nitra project, public, non-governmental organizations and institutions active in the field of domestic and gender-based violence in NSK. In the second part of the conference, a panel discussion was held on the issue of helping victims of domestic and gender-based violence and their children in NSK with the participation of experts from public and non-governmental organizations.
    The final conference also included a ceremonial “cutting of the ribbon” in the extended part of the Safe Women’s House by the director of the Slniečko Center, n.o., the ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway in Vienna and the mayor of the City of Nitra.
